It will display clear images up to 109 inches diagonal while delivering XGA Resolution at 1024×768 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The color and clarity of the images are heightened thanks to the combination of the advanced lamp technology with illumination of up to 2500 ANSI lumens combined with 3000:1 high contrast ratio. The aspect ratio can also be adjusted to display in native 16:9, so that the user can enjoy high-definition digital content without distortion. The Acer X1261 is the new HD-Ready DLP projector which belongs to the Value series of Acer projectors. The typical feature of every Value series projector is the highly detailed display of text and images and the new entry into this series is no different from the rest. With a brightness of 2500 ANSI lumens, 3700:1 contrast ratio and native XGA resolution, the Acer X1261 projector delivers every image and text with an amazing clarity and sharpness. The resolution of the DLP projector is 1024 x 768 pixels and the picture format compatible with it is 16:9. The lamp technology used in the projector is P-VIP and the required lamp power is 180 watt.

Saya membuat keputusan membeli Projector digital sendiri memandangkan amat sukar untuk memperoleh alatan tersebut di sekolah. Tambahan lagi, kelas yang saya ajar tidak mempunyai Projector sedia ada yang terpasang di atas siling. Makmal pula tidak mempunyai projektor yang boleh digunakan. Apa yang tinggal hanyalah projektor EPSON yang sudah rosak,  dan satu-satunya yang berfungsi pula terletak di Makmal B dan lampunya semakin kelam.

Projektor ICT pula eksklusif untuk kegunaan subjek ICT. Hanya kadangkala pihak pentadbiran meminjam dari guru berkenaan bagi tujuan rasmi. Selebihnya guru-guru yang mengajar subjek selain ICT tidak MUDAH memperoleh peluang untuk meminjam 1-2 jam untuk mengajar.

Maka, setelah sekian lama menyimpan perasaan (dan beban kewangan yang perlu difikirkan), mahu tak mahu saya terpaksa membuat keputusan membeli sendiri. Setelah 3-4 minggu melakukan ‘windows shopping’, menilai model yang ada dipamer di Kompleks Karamunsing, Kota Kinabalu, maka tanggal 19 Julai keputusan telah dibuat. Setelah memantau harga dan model yang paling sesuai untuk keperluan pendidikan dan kesesuaian dengan ‘utiliti sut’ saya, maka akhirnya saya memilih ACER DLP Projector P200i yang berharga RM2699. Sebenarnya saya telah sepakat dengan isteri untuk membeli model ACER atau NEC yang berharga di bawah RM2000. Tetapi setelah melihat sendiri demonstrasi paparan projektor yang ada, saya percaya model di bawah RM1899 tidak sesuai kerana resolusi yang agak rendah, 800 x 600 dpi.

Dengan keupayaan pancaran resolusi asal 800×600, saiz font biasa yang kecil itu akan kelihatan kasar dan tidak jelas. Dengan kata lain, sukar dibaca. Apabila kita melayari internet menggunakan firefox atau internet explorer pada saiz font yang biasa, agak sukar untuk audiens membaca kandungan paparan tersebut. Untuk itu, kita terpaksa meningkatkan saiz font Firefox tersebut. Tetapi untuk penayangan slaid Powerpoint yang menggunakan saiz font yang agak besar seperti kebiasaan adalah mencukupi.

Saya berfikir, dengan menambah beberapa ratus ringgit, saya boleh memilih projektor yang mempunyai keupayaan resolusi 1024×768, yang mana lebih baik. Apabila windows explorer di buka, atau apabila Firefox dilancarkan, semua tulisan yang terpapar di atas skrin mudah dibaca tanpa perlu mengubah saiz. Memang benar, font biasa Windows XP/Vista masih kecil, dan oleh itu projektor dengan keupayaan pemancaran dengan resolusi 1024×768 akan lebih baik.

So, keputusan telah dibuat. Oleh kerana projektor ini bakal menjadi milik peribadi, walaupun digunakan untuk tugas mengajar di sekolah, saya memilih ACER Projector X1261 seperti gambar di atas, dan bersedia untuk membayarnya.

Tetapi peniaga yang baik hati itu, turut memaklumkan bahawa satu lagi model projektor jenama Acer yang mempunyai ciri-ciri yang unik dan ramai pembeli (selain model X1161 di atas). Selain dari resolusi yang menyamai X1261, model P1200i mempunyai keupayaan penyambungan dari laptop ke projektor secara tanpa wayar. Yep, wireless! Perkataan itu sahaja sudah cukup menarik perhatian saya.

Sebaliknya jika sanggup menunggu 1-2 hari, beliau boleh cuba dapatkan stok terbaru model tersebut dari Acer dan akan membuat demonstrasi projektor berkenaan. Maka saya kata saya akan tunggu. Duit simpan dulu, sebaliknya nombor telefon bertukar tangan. Keesokan harinya, peniaga tersebut menelefon dan memaklumkan bahawa P1200i dah ada di kedai dan mempelawa saya mencubanya.

Maka, petang itu saya pergi ke kedai tersebut. Beliau menunjukkan reka bentuk perojektor, ciri-ciri unik atau ekstra yang ada pada P1200i berbanding model X1261 dan menunjukkan keupayaan pemancaran data dari laptop ke projektor tersebut secara wireless. Saya amat kagum dengan ciri-ciri itu, dan ciri-ciri lain seperti penyambungan HDMI, usb presentation dan sebagainya menyebabkan saya, tanpa menyesal menambahkan bajet pembelian Projektor digital dari RM2199 kepada RM2699.

Mungkin satu pembaziran, tetapi saya merasakan ia lebih berbaloi untuk saya miliki berbanding X1261, walaupun ciri-ciri asas seperti resolusi native dan resolusi tambahan yang hampir sama dan kadar keterangan/kecerahan (lumens) yang sesuai untuk bilik yang terang. Saya membayar nilai yang agak mahal untuk kebebasan menggerak dan meletak laptop (jika perlu) di mana-mana lokasi seperti dari belakang bilik darjah atau bergerak. Dengan keupayaan tablet pc yang boleh memusingkan paparan secara tegak (vertical display), projektor ini juga mampu menyelaras paparan itu mengikut mod paparan tablet pc.

Tapi apa yang penting ialah, untuk kegunaan peribadi, ia juga mampu disambung kepada DVD player atau Astro B.yond menggunakan HDMI cable dan laptop isteri saya juga mempunyai HDMI output. Selain dari itu, dengan keupayaan membuat tayangan slaid menggunakan format PtG, maka mudah untuk mengajak pelajar turut serta dalam proses P&P dalam bilik darjah (mudah-mudahan). Sudah tentulah ia amat sesuai dalam mengajar Mikroekonomi STPM juga (saya turut mengajar kelas ekonomi tingkatan enam/pra-u), kerana pelajar kerap diarah melakukan pembentangan di dalam kelas. Maka kini, jika bekalan elektrik sudah ada dalam blok kabin besi Pra-U (bangunan baru), pelajar mungkin tak perlu lagi menggunakan kad manila atau kertas majong sebaliknya bolehlah menyediakkan dalam format PTG dan terus cucuk ke USB A/B di belakang projektor P1200i milik cikgu ini.

Kesimpulannya, Acer P1200i lebih sesuai dengan keperluan saya sebagai pendidik berbanding model X1161. Model P1200i memang mahal berbanding X1161 mahupun X1261. Jika kerajaan memberikan saya wang untuk membeli bagi pihak sekolah, saya pasti akan cadangkan model P1200i. Kalau tidak pun model X1261. Tetapi malangnya kerajaan belum mempunyai peruntukan untuk pembaikan mahupun pembelian baru projektor untuk kegunaan sekolah. Maka terpulanglah kepada guru masing-masing menangani hal ini. Bagi diri ini,  saya memang membeli projektor semata-mata untuk tujuan memudahkan kerja saya sebagai guru. Pada pandangan saya, ia berbaloi. Namun begitu, dari satu aspek lain, menggunakan wang sendiri, RM2699, realitinya amat perit. Ini kerana wang sebanyak itu boleh digunakan untuk membeli sesuatu yang lebih baik atau membayar hutang kad kredit. Tetapi sekaligus nilai wang itu terikat kepada aset yang sebenarnya cepat menyusut nilai dan jangka hayat lampu yang secara kasarnya hanyalah bagi tempoh 2 – 2 1/2 tahun. Tetapi dalam aspek pendidikan, penggunaan lcd projector boleh mempercepatkan proses penyampaian dan saya berharap pelajar-pelajar akan gembira belajar dengan saya dan mudah memahami pengajaran yang saya sampaikan secara lisan, secara visual dan secara interaktif.

Akhir kata, penulisan ini bukanlah menunjuk-nunjuk, tetapi berkongsi pengalaman merancang perbelanjaan, memilih, membeli dan menggunakan LCD Projektor.
